A blended of 97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier, the 2009 “The Relic” Shiraz-Viognier was aged for 24 months in French oak, 5% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it is a little mute to begin on the nose offering delicate notes of creme de cassis, crushed blackberries and warm blueberries with nuances of Indian spices, toast and peach blossom. Full bodied, very concentrated, purely fruited and taut in the mouth, it is very well structured with a firm level grainy tannins and medium to high, balanced level of acid, finishing long and layered. Still tight-knit and primary, it should drink best 2013 to 2021+.
