The 2010 Teixar is 100% old-vine Garnacha Peluda and feels a bit backward and closed, with a serious profile, shy balsamic notes of graphite and tar giving it an earthy bouquet. With time in the glass it slowly opens up and starts showing aromas of ripe damsons, black cherries and blueberries, with faint violets and sweet spice tones. The palate is medium to full-bodied with sweet fruit and spicy flavors, fine-grained tannins, good intensity and balancing acidity. A serious, big, powerful yet balanced Montsant. Drink 2015-2021.
Vinyes Domenech is one of the up-and-coming new names of Montsant. The company is named after its organically farmed, 15-hectare property and is quite ecological-minded, as 90% of electricity used is from renewable sources and all their water comes from rain and other natural sources. Of course, all this would be just an anecdote if their wines were not very good. The vineyards are spread in different terraces (bancales) where the predominant soil is argilo-calcareous.
