Mostly fruit purchased from the northern end of the Barossa Valley, the 2018 Blackwell Shiraz features gorgeous aromas of red raspberries, accented by hints of cracked pepper and vanilla. This is one Barossa Shiraz that shows no sign at all of over-ripeness, being fresh yet full-bodied, creamy and lush yet vibrant. It's aged entirely in American oak, but only a small proportion of the wood is new, so it comes across as balanced, at least to this taster. While approachable now, it has the stuffing to drink well at least through 2027, perhaps longer.
