The 2018 Barbaresco Roncaglie shows slightly more richness and concentration next to the classic Barbaresco (from 2019), and this wine is also underlined by darker fruit and a hint of earthy spice. I wouldn't say that the wine is more robust because it's not. In fact, it stays true to a very streamlined and elegant style that is befitting to Nebbiolo.

Tones of tobacco and bay leaf rise from the 2011 Barbaresco Roncaglie, along with some bramble and wild berry. This is an austere and somewhat closed (initially) expression of Nebbiolo.

The mix of cinnamon, cherry, licorice and tar flavors shows complexity, while the firm, dense structure provides support and drives the finish. The 2010 Barbaresco Roncaglie delivers enormous softness in the form of ripe cherry and dark fruit. That thick fruit intensity is wrapped within the wine’s fleshy and generous texture. Soft and yielding, it shows the warm and soft side of the 2010 vintage. This wine is designed for short-term drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. No known American importer.

Though not a big, powerful red, this is nonetheless dense and tight, with assertive tannins dominating the fruit. Strawberry, rose and white pepper notes mingle as this plays out on the long finish.
