Try a Northern Italian escargot dish, such as lumache in umido with a side of polenta, with this smooth blend of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Friulano and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. The Scarbolo 2013 My Time opens to a brilliant golden hue with faint highlights of green. This is a carefully aged blend that boasts impressively seamless transitions between exotic fruit, candied lemon and toasted almond. The grapes are co-fermented in large oak casks, and the wine ages in botti for 12 months followed by an additional 12 months in steel tank. It reveals a mid-weight texture that is soften and tempered by age and attentive winemaking. My Time ends on a creamy, fragrant note. Some 6,500 bottles were made.

The 2011 My Time delivers very pleasant surprises. The blend is 40% Chardonnay, 30% Friulano and 30% Sauvignon, and the wine is fermented and aged in oak. My Time is an exemplary white wine from northeast Italy that shows the richness and creaminess that makes this category so attractive. A medium weight wine like this can pair with a wide range of white meat and seafood-based dishes.

The 2009 My Time is impressive. A blend of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Friulano and 30% Sauvignon, My Time impresses for its focus and elegance. Ripe fruit that tilts towards the tropical end of the spectrum leads to hints of spices and flowers as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2009 has plenty of richness yet avoids the heaviness that is so common in this vintage. A long, creamy finish adds the last layers of nuance. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. It’s great to see Valter Scarbolo reaching these heights with his best wines. It would be even better, though, if the entire lineup were this compelling. The 2007 My Time, a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Friulano, shows the potential Scarbolo is capable of. Soft, textured and impeccable from start to finish, My Time emerges from the glass with soft, seductive layers of white peaches, jasmine, and mint. All of the elements come together beautifully in this harmonious understated Friulian white. Clean, mineral notes frame the exquisite finish. This is a first-class effort from Scarbolo. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017. I was quite taken with the higher-end wines I tasted from Scarbolo this year. It would be nice to see a little more attention paid to the entry-level bottlings.
