The 2019 Barbaresco Marcarini (a certified organic wine) produces an elegant playlist of Nebbiolo aromas with wild berry, rusty earth, candied violets, lilac and licorice. This vintage is tonic and nicely firm in texture with a smooth and polished mouthfeel that is stitched together with a subtle tannic backbone. The wine is medium in length, but it would make a good near-term Barbaresco.

Drawing its fruit from Treiso, the Rivetto dal 1902 2017 Barbaresco Marcarini is almost vulnerable to the scorching summer heat that characterized this vintage. The bouquet shows some ripeness, venturing into cherry confit and dried fig aromas, but it ultimately resists heading too far in that direction. It stops in a place of restraint and elegance, with balancing aromas of crushed stone and licorice. I would recommend this Barbaresco for near and medium-term drinking. Some 6,000 bottles were made.

The 2015 Barbaresco Marcarini offers a bright point of red cherry that really pops from the bouquet as soon as you lift the glass to your nose. This was a very warm vintage, and the fruit offered here is sweet, soft and extra plush as a result. However, the wine ultimately reaches a place of balance that sees that abundant fruit matched against the wine's mid-weight feel and young tannins.

The 2014 Barbaresco Marcarini opens to a lean and light color with pretty ruby highlights and overall color transparency. The bouquet is youthful and bright with pungent tones of cherry, crushed stone and smoked spice. The bouquet offers just a pinch of buoyant volatility (or something that resembles that) that lifts the entire bouquet. Some 6,000 bottles were produced.
