This is a blend of 65% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malvasia Nera from a warm vintage. The 2020 Eneo doesn't have the same pulp and mass that we see in the 2019 vintage; however, it does show lots of richness and intensity, especially in terms of bouquet. Perhaps the aromas are more focused and sharp in this wine, and there is a pretty mineral note that cuts a through line connecting the bouquet to the medium to full-bodied mouthfeel. This vintage feels more accessible compared to the 2019, and the alcohol content is a high 15%. Production is 29,000 bottles.

The Montepeloso 2019 Eneo is Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera, Montepulciano and Alicante. You'll notice that the blend is different from the 2020 vintage. This wine is deeply saturated and rich with much more opulence and texture compared to the lower-priced wines in this portfolio. The Eneo comes after the A Quo and before the Gabbro on a ladder of intensity and fruit weight. This vintage is recognized by its dark fruit, almond, oak spice, balanced toast and smoky back-end notes. It will be nice to see how this wine evolves over the next 10 years. The alcohol is high at 15%. This is a 27,000-bottle production.

The Montepeloso 2018 Eneo (a blend of 55% Sangiovese, 25% Montepulciano, 15% Alicante and 5% Malvasia Nera) is another unexpected blend from this very promising estate on the Tuscan Coast. With 34,000 bottles made, this is the mid-entry cru wine. It offers a beautifully saturated color with thickness, fruity richness and nicely integrated tannins. It's a bit harder to dissect the various components in this blend, but that solo voice of Sangiovese does emerge with wild plum, potting earth and blue lilac. There is an extra point of acidity that also reminds me of the mighty Tuscan grape. This well-priced wine is worth seeking out.

The 2015 Eneo is a beautifully saturated and concentrated wine. The unusual blend used here is Sangiovese with Montepulciano, Marselan and Alicante Bouschet. The bouquet is profoundly bold and exuberant, with generous integration and beautiful power. The warmth of the vintage further adds to the overall intensity of this carefully crafted red wine. The mouthfeel is seamless and soft.

The 2012 Eneo reveals a deep sense of wholeness and oneness. Sangiovese is blended with Montepulciano, Marselan and Alicante Bouschet. That Sangiovese base gives this wine a bright core with good tension and moderate weight. Among Montepeloso's various wines, this one is lightest on its feet. It shows dexterity and nimbleness with fluid aromas and a silky mouthfeel. It briskly doles out a long succession of soft fruit flavors, dried cherry, plum, Indian spice and grilled herb.
