A blend of 54% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2017 Trutina opens with juicy, fruit-forward notes of black cherry and plum essence. Medium-bodied, the wine is fresh, balanced and open with an accessible palate that offers hints of baking spices, vanilla and sweet cocoa powder. The wine ends with a pleasing finish. It spent 21 months in 30% new oak, 10% American. 66,000 bottles produced.

A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 12% Malbec and 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Trutina begins with inky dark fruits and spice tones that fill the glass with a heavy concentration. Medium to full-bodied, the palate shows a more direct approach, still showing a concentrated fruit core, then giving way to a tight tannic grip across the mid-palate. This Bordeaux-style blend ends with a lingering finish, showing considerable quality for the price. Just under 7,000 cases were made.

The 2015 Trutina is an oaky, medium-bodied red that's rustic and lacks concentration, with aromas and flavors of vanilla, coffee roast and toasted coconut. Even at this price point, it will face considerable competition. It's a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc.

Made from a blend of 44% Merlot, 38% Cab Sauvignon, 10% Malbec and 8% Cab Franc, the 2014 Trutina gives up lots of graphite and cedary spice intermixed with notions of coffee bean, blackcurrants and licorice. Beautiful on the palate, with full-bodied richness and no hard edges, it needs short term cellaring to integrate its oak component, and then it should drink beautifully through 2024+.

Up with the best vintages of this cuvee to date, the 2013 Trutina (42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 12% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot and Syrah) offers a charming, ready to go, upfront style as well as notes of currants, chocolate, dried spices and bouquet garni. Drink this medium to full-bodied, ripe and nicely balanced 2013 over the coming 7-8 years.
