The expressive and open 2020 Lanzaga comes from a rainy and stormy vintage (from the eighth of May until the end of August) and an early harvest, as they started the 21st of September. It's a riper year than 2019, and the wine has 14.5% alcohol. It's juicy and has some tannins that are going to require some more time in bottle and/or powerful food. 34,434 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022.

When tasted next to the 2020, the 2019 Lanzaga comes through as a little more closed and austere, with a little less alcohol (14% vs 14.5%) and with rounder tannins. It comes from 15 to 20 hectares of their own organically farmed vineyards. It fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts and matured in 225-liter barrels and 1,500- and 2,500-liter oak foudres for 14 months. 24,527 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2021.

The Rioja red 2018 Lanzaga comes from a very wet year with more than 600 liters of rain, but it had a dry October, which helped to fight mildew. They harvested between the 8th of October and 1st of November. It's a blend from their 15 to 20 hectares of organically farmed vines, all head-pruned on slopes rich in clay and limestone, mixing red and white soils, some places with more sandstone, others with more marl, looking for complexity. It fermented in 6,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 1,500- and 2,500-liter oak foudres and 225-liter barrels for 14 months. It's floral and expressive, subtle and cold. This could very well be the best value in the portfolio. The wine has gobsmacking subtleness and elegance combined with power, definition and precision. Superb! 24,568 bottles produced. It was bottled in May/June 2020.

The 2017 Lanzaga comes from a harvest marked by the killer frost (-5 degrees Celsius) of April 27th and 28th, but the higher-altitude vines from the village of Lanciego escaped the disaster. This is a blend from their 15 to 20 hectares of organically farmed vines, all head-pruned on slopes rich in clay and limestone, mixing red and white soils, places with more sandstone, others with more marl, looking for complexity. It fermented in 6,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 1,500- and 2,500-liter oak foudres and 225-liter barriques for 14 months. It has great balance and freshness, it's very clean and doesn't show any of the challenges or shortages of the harvest. It's creamy, juicy and medium-bodied, with very fine tannins, a serious wine that changed in 2013-2014 to this complexity and depth. The vines from Lanciego didn't suffer as much as other villages with the frost of 2017. 27,332 bottles produced. It was bottled in May and June 2019.

The 2016 Lanzaga, the village red from Lanciego, comes from a challenging growing season, despite which, yields were on the high side. It comes from their own head-pruned, organically farmed vineyards where the Tempranillo dominates, but there are always other varieties, mostly Garnacha and Graciano. It fermented in 6,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeast and a soft vinification and matured in a combination of used barriques and 1,500- and 2,500-liter oak foudres for 14 months. This is super expressive, bright and floral, with great finesse and nuance. It has a velvety palate with very fine tannins and is harmonious and balanced, with great purity and a bright finish. 20,820 bottles produced. It was bottled between May and June 2018.
