Unusually, the Grand Vin here is offered one vintage younger than the middle one. The top of the range 2011 Gran Cruor is a pure Cari?ena from old vines that feels quite balsamic, ripe and less oaky than you'd think for a wine that aged for 16 months in brand new French barriques. The full-bodied palate is not a bruiser, but is rather a gentle giant offering volume and extraction but with fine tannins and good acidity. For the total volume they produce this is merely an anecdote. 1,484 bottles.

The 2010 Gran Cruor is an unusual blend of 70% Syrah complemented by equal parts of Garnacha and Carinena and comes through as very balsamic, with pungent aromas of shoe polish and peat, notes of dark chocolate, espresso coffee and a background of ripe dark berry fruit. The palate is full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins, good acidity and a slightly warm finish. Drink with powerful food to match the power of the wine. Drink 2014-2020. This Bellmunt del Priorat winery belongs to the Perelada group from Emporda producing reliable reds from Priorat. The 2009 Gran Cruor is a blend of 80% Syrah, 10% Garnacha and 10% Carinena aged entirely in new French oak for 16 months. The nose is very pure and harmonious, beautifully defined and carries the oak with style, imparting scents of raspberry, kirsch, blood orange and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied and well-balanced, its crisp, ripe red fruit interlaced with minerals and a touch of white pepper. It has a lovely silky texture, and even though I might have cut the new oak back to express the terroir more succinctly, this is a delicious, well-crafted Priorat Syrah. The 2008 Gran Cruor, a blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Carinena, spent 18 months in new French oak. Notes of wood smoke, mineral, toasty blue fruits, and lavender inform the nose of this full-bodied wine. In the glass flavors of blueberry jam and pepper lead to a balanced, lengthy wine that will continue to blossom for another 2-3 years. It will be at its best from 2014 to 2023.
