All Grenache, aged in a combination of demi-muids and foudre, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père delivers black cherries and blackberries, plus hints of clove, allspice and garrigue. Full-bodied, dense and rich, with plenty of alcohol ("but less than 16%," said Nicolas Boiron), it finishes long and velvety but also a bit warm.

Deeper, earthier and spicier than the other bottlings, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père is essentially all old-vine Grenache from the La Gardiole lieu dit. Dustings of cinnamon, allspice and clove accent black cherries and loam on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich and velvety, ending long and softly dusty. It should be the longest-lived of the magnificent trio of 2018 reds produced at Bosquet des Papes.

Because of its rich tannic structure, I expect the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père to be among the longer-lived wines from this estate. It's loaded with concentrated notes of plums, raspberries and cherries, all delivered on a full-bodied, velvety palate and ending with chewy tannins and salted licorice.

There are 10,000 bottles of the stunning 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père, which is good news for lovers of 100% Grenache. Drawn from a single parcel in the lieu-dit of Gardiole (mostly sandy soils), half of the fruit was destemmed. It's full-bodied and concentrated but silky and refined, with scintillating purity of cherry and raspberry fruit, backed by crisp acids and enlivening hints of orange zest on the long, reverberating finish. It's a terrific value that should drink well for more than a decade.

Bosquet des Papes was successful across the board in 2015, as all of the four wines stood out in my blind tastings. My favorite (by a nose) was the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grandpere, which is 98% Grenache. On top of its lovely floral and cherry aromas, the mid-palate boasts incredible lushness and suppleness, then adds in complex spice elements. It's long, silky and only the slightest bit warm on the finish. It should make it to 2030, but there's no real need to wait.
