The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape A La Gloire de Mon Grandpere is a blend of 98% Grenache and 2% Cinsault and other varieties (from 60- to 80-year-old vines), explosive aromas of plums, licorice, figs, black cherries, raspberries, and loamy, resiny notes jump from the glass. Full-bodied with tremendous seductive powers in its level of glycerin and rich, broad, expansive fruit, it is a wine without make-up so to speak since it is aged in old wood foudres as well as tanks and a handful of demi-muids. Drink this beautifully textured, sumptuous 2007 over the next 12-15 years. One of the ancient families of Chateauneuf du Pape, the Boirons trace their origins and winemaking back to the mid-1800s. All of the following 2007s performed as well or slightly better than they did prior to bottling, always a good sign. It appears that only one wine will be offered in 2008.A Christopher Cannan Selection, various American importers including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
