A bigger, richer wine than the classic cuvee, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape A la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père checks in as close to 100% Grenache (there’s a splash of Cinsault and Clairette) that was brought up in demi-muids and foudre. It offers a downright sexy, full-bodied, seamless character as well as overflowing Provencal charm in its ripe kirsch and black cherry fruit, spice, cured meats and garrigue aromas and flavors. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape A La Gloire de Mon Grandpere is a blend of 98% Grenache and 2% Cinsault and other varieties (from 60- to 80-year-old vines), explosive aromas of plums, licorice, figs, black cherries, raspberries, and loamy, resiny notes jump from the glass. Full-bodied with tremendous seductive powers in its level of glycerin and rich, broad, expansive fruit, it is a wine without make-up so to speak since it is aged in old wood foudres as well as tanks and a handful of demi-muids. Drink this beautifully textured, sumptuous 2007 over the next 12-15 years. One of the ancient families of Chateauneuf du Pape, the Boirons trace their origins and winemaking back to the mid-1800s. All of the following 2007s performed as well or slightly better than they did prior to bottling, always a good sign.
