The 2005 Pinot Noir “Select” has an expressive perfume of toasty black cherry and floral elements. This leads to a medium-bodied wine with crisp acids, enough tasty fruit for balance, and a firm finish. This wine will soften with several years in the bottle but will always offer the taster a handshake rather than a hug. Doug Tunnel, a hands-on viticulturalist if ever there was one, received biodynamic certification for his vineyards in 2005. Round and loose-knit, this opens with warm, accessible flavors that include wet earth, leaf and herb. It lasts into a finish that keeps moving, adding nuances of sun- dried tomato, pie cherry and rhubarb.
