Still young and vibrant, the sweet 1989 proves how long-lived the Mills Vineyard Pinot Noirs can be. Cinnamon, sassafras, cola, black cherry, and earth characteristics are found in this medium-bodied, spicy, impressively endowed effort. I hesitate to say it, but most 1989 red Burgundies I have tasted do not possess the vibrancy and youthfulness exhibited by this California Pinot Noir. Although not a profound wine, it is an outstanding, complex Pinot with 5-7 more years of life ahead of it.
