My favorite wine of the three 1991s I enjoyed is the 1991 Le Mistral, a blend of primarily Grenache and Mourvedre, with small quantities of Syrah, Carignan, and Cinsault. The wine offers a zesty, ripe, berry-scented bouquet, and lovely, spicy, rich, medium-bodied, velvety-textured, long flavors. It should drink well for 3-4 years. Joseph Phelps' Vin du Mistral series of reasonably priced wines made from grapes such as Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre has resulted in some innovative and attractively priced, tasty wines.
