Tasted at the vertical held at the property, the 1998 Chateau Siran is totally different to how the wine tasted just after bottling. Now approaching adulthood, this belnd of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot has a fresh and clean bouquet, with blackberry and briary scents, a touch of allspice and clove - quite detailed and vibrant. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, a keen thread of acidity, quite ferrous in style and tapering in just a touch towards the finish. This is a perfectly decent, upstanding 1998 Margaux, although I noticed that it does lose a bit of vivacity in the glass, so I would not decant this for too long. Tasted February 2016.
