Although this dark ruby/purple-colored Cos Labory is more charming since bottling, aromatically it is closed, with red and black fruits just beginning to emerge. In the mouth, dusty tannin appears elevated, giving the wine a hard, dry, rough-textured finish. However, there is medium to full body, plenty of sweet, ripe fruit on the attack, and my instincts suggest there is good extract behind the wall of tannin. This is not a wine for readers seeking immediate gratification. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
If it were not for the extremely high level of dry, aggressive tannin in this wine, I would have been unreserved in my judgment. There are plenty of positive characteristics to be found, but the tannin level makes crystal balling this wine akin to consulting a psychic.
