The 2010 Tinto is an unoaked blend of 30% each of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. This expands nicely in the glass, showing good depth for the regular Tinto, good purity of fruit and some notable power in its youth. It is a fine Tinto for this vintage, well-structured, clean and tasty. It is also an interesting contrast with the winery’s charming 2011 douRosa, also in very fine form. Which one you prefer depends both on your personal taste and how you wish to use it. This will certainly be the better pick for a food match-up as it has the additional stuffing and power to hold up to foods, while retaining purity of fruit. It should also age better, and thus will be a good choice for those with a cellar. As clean and fresh as this is, though, it won’t provide that same rush of excitement that the exuberant 2011 douRosa does, at least today. By most traditional markers, though, this is the better wine, it will likely continue to separate from the douRosa in time, and it is a notably good performance in the vintage. Perhaps the answer is to buy both. You really can’t go wrong at these bargain prices. Note: This is a bit of an oddity in terms of timing. The winery says it had a large quantity of this, so they still have not bottled the 2011 and this is the current release even though the 2010 Reserva was already reviewed. Drink now-2020.
There are bargains all over the place in the lineup this issue. La Rosa is reaching out to consumers on a budget. Don’t hesitate to take advantage here.
