The 2007 TINTO, retasted for this horizontal of current releases, is a typical Douro blend of grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. Given the relatively small price difference between this lovely Tinto and the douRosa entry level wine, it is hard to see why you shouldn’t trade up to this, as this has an extra layer or two of depth (although it is not terribly deep), some ageworthiness, a better finish, a more caressing texture and better structure. Which is a quite a lot of “betters” for $4.00. Delicious and gripping on the finish, this is another of the “regular” ‘07s that shows quite well and can win the Douro some fans at reasonable price points. It has fleshed out and expanded since I first saw it. It may be approachable now, but a year or so in the cellar wouldn’t hurt. If this isn’t the best “regular” Tinto from this winery, it certainly is on the short list. Drink now -2017.
