The 2001 Barolo Brunate opens with a perfumed, balsamic nose typical of Brunate, showing menthol, eucalyptus, spices and new oak. It is dense on the palate with layers of dark ripe fruit supported by much new oak which will need a few years to integrate. If those elements come together it may ultimately deserve a higher score. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.
