Currado (or Vietti, as most people mistakenly call him) has turned out four superb Barolos in 1989 which possess subtle differences in their flavor and aromatic profiles. The 1989 Barolo Castiglione is as rich and concentrated as the 1989 Barolo Brunate, but less structured and sweeter and more succulent. It is a gorgeously proportioned, rich, hedonistic Barolo. While it appears to possess less tannin, the massive amount of fruit may be hiding more tannin than it currently reveals. It is a great full-bodied, wonderfully pure Barolo for drinking over the next two decades.
Alfredo Currado is one of the great gentlemen of Piedmont, so it is delightful to share with readers my enthusiastic reviews of his 1989 and 1990 offerings.
