The deeply-colored 2001 Barolo is very spiced and floral on the nose, with flavors of focused, bright red cherry fruit and toasted oak, with good length on the finish. It comes across as somewhat austere and shut down today. It is aged 12 months in casks followed by 6 months in used barriques. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2014.
