The 2006 Vacqueyras Cuvee Classique. Its dark ruby hue does not reveal the color saturation of the 2007, but the bouquet offers up beautiful scents of kirsch, licorice, roasted Provencal herbs, and meat. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy, and pure, it should drink well for 4-5 years. One of Vacqueyras’ reference point estates, Domaine Le Couroulu is run by Guy Richard. From just over 42 acres of vines, Richard consistently fashions serious, well-made wines from the appellation’s limestone plateau and the rocky top soils known as the Galets Roules. The wines, which spend 18-29 months in tank and neutral wood, are undeniable bargains for top-notch southern Rhone wines. All of these four offerings merit serious attention.Represented by Russell Herman, Berkeley Heights, NJ; tel.
