It was fun to taste some back vintages with Francesco and Mariangela Cambria at their Etna estate, Cottanera. The 2009 Etna Bianco dates back to one year after their father died and this brother and sister team was forced to start a new chapter that would eventually lead them to change winemaking philosophy and varieties to focus on indigenous grapes. In fact, these Carricante vines were planted in 1997 and are some of the oldest. This wine reveals a creamy, medium-bodied mouthfeel with plenty of apricot, stone fruit and poached pear. Texture is what stands out most in this library vintage, but the wine keeps going in terms of freshness.
