More intellectual than the demonstrative Charmes, the 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with notions of incense, plums, dark berries, vine smoke and spices. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, its deep, multidimensional core is framed by lively acids and powdery tannins. Historically, this cuvée was always one of the more structured, extracted wines in the range, yet the last few vintages have witnessed a turn toward greater elegance without losing any of the cuvée's inherent seriousness.
