The Domaine de l'Oratoire St.-Martin is one of the finest estates in the Cotes du Rhone. Recent vintages have all persuasively exhibited high quality. Kudos to the Alary family for producing one of the finest white wines in the Cotes du Rhone. The 35% Syrah/50% Mourvedre/15% Grenache barrel-aged 1993 Haut Coustias reveals a saturated ruby/purple color, a big, sweet nose of cassis, earth, licorice, and truffles, great fruit, wonderful ripeness, and a full-bodied, structured, intensely concentrated style. The most youthful of the three current offerings, it promises to age well for 10-12 years.
The three red wine cuvees from this estate are all extremely well-made, rich, concentrated, and flavorful wines with considerable personality. They are impressive wines from one of the stars of the Cotes du Rhone-Villages.
