Castello di Meleto’s 2005 Chianti Classico offers vibrant dark fruit intermingled with floral notes on a classic, firmly-structured frame. This cask-aged Chianti offers excellent balance, even if hints of greenness occasionally come through. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011. This year I was particularly impressed with the top bottlings at Castello di Meleto, a medium-sized property located in Gaiole. Oenologists Federico Cerelli and Stefano Chioccioli have turned out two gems from the outstanding 2004 vintage in their Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Casi and Rainero.
