Produced from purchased fruit, the medium ruby-colored 2003 Echezeaux (red) does not have the same potential as Ambroise’s finest 2003s (he believes this vineyard will deliver great fruit in the future as his relationship with the owner develops). Medium-bodied, it reveals appealing dark fruit flavors in a slightly muddled personality. Satin-textured and flavorful, its finish is shorter than most of this producer’s premier crus yet is seamless and ripe. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
