Still young, tight and closed, the 2006 McKinley Springs Vineyard Syrah is quite different from the ripe, open 2005. It’s the same “espresso block” fruit, redolent with penetrating aromas of espresso, bitter chocolate and smoke. The tannins will need more time to soften up, but there is a good, solid core of concentrated berry and cherry fruit that will also reward cellaring for five or six years.——P.G.(11/1/2008)—— 90
