The luscious 2010 Serras del Priorat (60% Garnacha, 20% Carinena and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 8 months in 500-liter, two-year-old French casks) has a powerful, floral bouquet with touches of iodine and honey. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft, supple entry that belies the backbone. It displays good acidity, its tangible, gamey dark fruit mixed with a touch of cooked meat lending this a very Rhone-like character. Drink now-2017.
Christopher and Charlotte Cannan have owned Clos Figueras since 1997, after a recommendation by their friend Rene Barbier, who suggested they acquire the first 10-hectare parcel of abandoned terraces just outside Gratallops. This was augmented by a 8-hectare parcel three years later. Apart from the flagship wine, they produce a small amount of white wine aged in stainless steel vat.
