The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino is a worthy effort. Its deep ruby/garnet color is followed by a sweet bouquet of smoke, scorched earth, plums, cherries, spice box, and tobacco. Long and dense, with soft tannin, ripe fruit, and a forward, evolved style (typical of the 1998 Brunellos), it will drink well for 8-10 years.
