The 1996 Brunello di Montalcino exhibits new saddle leather, Asian soy, plums, currants, and licorice in its complex aromatic profile. Already revealing some amber at the edge, it is a rich, full-bodied, slightly austere Brunello to drink over the next 6-7 years. As a postscript, I believe the 1996 Brunello di Montalcinos are likely to dry out since their fruit seems fragile and superficial, although pleasant at present.
