The superb red blend 2010 Grans Muralles is a multi-grape mixture of Garnacha Tinta, Monastrell, Querol, Cari?ena and Garró grown on slate soils in the appellation Conca de Barberà, in the vicinity of the Poblet monastery, which is surrounded by walls that name the wine. It's a dark, concentrated and closed red with a clear Mediterranean profile slowly revealing aromas of esparto grass, tree bark and a rustic, somewhat dusty touch that coats the ripe black fruit. It matured for 18 months in new French oak barrels and it's still not oaky, but the palate reveals some spicy flavors and some pointy tannins that should polish with more time in bottle. A very good showing for Grans Muralles. 594 cases produced, one of their prestige, lower production wines.
