Castello Romitorio’s 2003 Brunello di Montalcino is dark and brooding in its expression of tar, earthiness, flowers, spices, toasted oak and cherries. It reveals a fairly classic structure in its linearity, yet also shows an attractive sweetness and vibrancy to its black cherry fruit. This big, backward Brunello needs at least another year or two in bottle to come around and should last to age 15, perhaps beyond.
