The medium to dark ruby-colored 2000 Clos de la Roche displays roasted black fruit and pepper aromas. Medium-bodied, velvety-textured, concentrated, and dense in the attack, it offers loads of thick blackberry flavors before tightening to reveal a firm, structured finish. Projected maturity: 2005-2010.
The Lecheneaut brothers, Philippe and Vincent, have a distinct preference for the 2000s over the 2001s. According to them, “the acidity levels are higher in 2001 and the tannins had trouble ripening whereas in 2000 we had superb ripeness.”
