The 2007 Barolo Cannubi shows the delicateness and sheer pedigree that makes Cannubi the most storied hillside in all of Piedmont. Perfumed red berries, flowers and licorice dance on the palate with the grace of a ballerina. The Cannubi possesses gorgeous fragrance, silky tannins and a layered quality to the fruit that is simply beautiful. Sweet, minty notes add freshness and lift on the finish. This is a somewhat fragile, fleeting Barolo with echoes of red Burgundy. I am not sure how well it will age, but it is absolutely singing right now. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.
Proprietor Enzo Brezza’s Baroli are absolutely beautiful in 2007. The wines find a striking middle ground in the way they express the opulent radiance of the vintage as well as a house style that favors traditional vinification and aging.
