The 2005 Barolo Vigna Liste is a decidedly more modern-styled wine loaded with dark fruit, smoke, licorice, new leather and French oak. Here, too, the richness and depth of the fruit are impressive, but in the Liste the French oak is overdone, not just in the aromas and flavors, but, just as importantly, in the hard tannins that have seeped into the wine. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. These new releases from Borgogno are hit-and-miss, but the best wines in the collection prove the estate has all of the ingredients to make important Baroli of the highest level.
