From a cold, complicated vintage that had a lot of mildew pressure, the 2008 Cote Rotie Maison Rouge was the first vintage where Christine moved from fermenting in stainless steel to fermenting in oak barrels. She also began incorporating a tiny amount of stem, but kept the elevage the same, with the wine seeing a little less than two years in 30% new French oak. A pretty, floral, red fruited and peppery nose leads to a medium-bodied, elegant and fresh Cote Rotie that has enough depth and richness to drink nicely through 2020. It is a solid effort in the vintage and has lots to like.
