There are only a handful of cellars that produce a range of wines as riveting as those of Leonard and Olivier Humbrecht. In fact, I would rank Zind-Humbrecht's performance in 1989 and 1990 with the most memorable I have ever witnessed. Anyone traveling to Europe should make a special effort to visit and taste in these cellars. The 1989 Pinot Blanc is so perfumed and loaded with fruit that it could be confused with a premier cru white burgundy. However, it is Alsace Pinot Blanc at its most decadent and most profound. The wonderfully intense bouquet of honey, oranges, and apples is gorgeous. In the mouth, the wine exhibits great fruit, a long, surprisingly intense, medium-bodied texture, and an opulent, nearly explosive, dry finish. This great Pinot Blanc will age for 4-5 years.
