The 2004 Castell de les Pinyeres is composed of 45% Garnacha, 30% Carinena, with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo. Dark ruby/purple-colored, it offers an expressive perfume of mineral, forest floor, black cherry, and currant aromas. Smooth textured and ripe with a bit of underlying structure, this tasty effort should drink well over the next 4-6 years. Celler El Masroig, located in the up-and-coming region of Montsant, is a role model for how a cooperative ought to function. The winery keeps only the best grapes and sells off the rest to other producers, some of whom are quite well known. The wines are very good from the top to the bottom of the portfolio.Importer: Bryce McNamee, Boutique Wine Collection, Philadelphia, PA; www.boutiquewines.info
