This wine, called Joseph, is a Cabernet Sauvignon (90%) and Merlot (10%) blend. It is made by Joseph Grilli, who produces it in the Amarone method, leaving the grapes to raisin before fermentation is commenced. However, unlike Amarone, there is no raisiny, pruny characteristics to this wine, which is made in limited quantities of 500-700 cases. The 1995 Joseph is young, revealing less complexity because of its youth. It is a wine of great intensity, a saturated opaque ruby/purple color, and a full-bodied, monster finish. It will be interesting to follow this intriguing wine over the next 10-15 years.
