This luxury cuvee, made from old Grenache vines, aged in small French oak casks, and bottled unfiltered, is a magnificent example of what Spain can produce at the top quality level. The wine reveals an opaque purple color, a huge bouquet of spicy, smoky-scented oak, combined with lavish quantities of jammy blackcurrants and kirsch. Super-ripe, full-bodied, with layers of rich, explosively ripe, concentrated fruit, this voluptuously-textured wine will provide thrilling drinking for 10-15 years. The yields for this 1991 were 20 hectoliters per hectare, or about one and one-half tons from tightly spaced vines.
