A shockingly good value, the 2001 Riesling Kabinett Wehlener Sonnenuhr offers earthy aromas intermingled with minerals, flowers, and apples. A wine of exceptional purity, elegance, intensity, and focus, it is expansive, rich, and deep. Apples, verbena, quartz, and lemons can be discerned in this crystalline offering's medium-bodied character. In addition, its finish appears to hold on for at least 45 seconds (my notes say: "long, long, long, my God, this is long!). Projected maturity: 2005-2013. After tasting these resplendent vinous treasures all I could do was shake my head in bewilderment. Bravo!
