The larger production release (700 cases), the 2012 Saint Joseph Sainte Epine is a smoking value that readers should be able to find in the market place. Medium-bodied, beautifully textured and pure, with ample sweet raspberry and blackberry fruit, pepper, violets and hints of bacon fat, it has solid richness and depth, good acidity and fine tannin. Already approachable, it should be ready to go on release and drink nicely for 7-8 years.
I had a fantastic visit at this family owned estate. Covering over 80 acres in Saint Joseph, Cornas and Crozes Hermitage, they release a number of cuvees from each appellation, all of which are of high quality and worth seeking out. In addition, prices remain more than reasonable.
