Carignan and Grenache lead the way on this old-vines classic that is typically excellent but not quite as generous, round and whole as in previous vintages. Still, you will be impressed by the compact nose of thyme, sage and tobacco along with dry red fruit. In addition, the palate of cassis and blackberry is pure and tannic as a rock. Needs time; best in 2009–10.——M.S.(8/1/2007)—— 91
