For whatever reason, I have been uninspired by a succession of Dickerson Vineyard offerings. This wine exhibits a vivid ruby color, eucalyptus, pepper, and spice in its light intensity nose, dry, medium-bodied, lean, austere flavors, and a metallic, short finish. New wood is obvious, but this is a high-strung, angular Zinfandel that could use more fat and charm. It should age well for 5-7 years.
Not surprisingly, Ravenswood has turned out a portfolio of powerful, full-throttle Zinfandels that live up to the winery's motto, "No Wimpy Wines."
