The 1984 Ravenswood Dickerson Vineyard and Old Hill Ranch Zinfandels are still relatively young wines. Both offer considerable excitement as they easily compete with some of the best wines produced not only in California, but in the world. The Dickerson Vineyard has developed more nuances than the Old Hill Ranch. The color remains an opaque purple, but the nose has moved from one of mint and cassis, to cedar, tobacco, black berries, herbs, and minerals. It is lush and rich, with exceptional concentration. The wine's focus and delineation suggest brilliant winemaking. This magnificent Zinfandel should continue to drink well for another 8-10 years.
