The 2012 Vallegarcía Syrah followed the standard way and matured in new barriques for one year. It feels very meaty and juicy with classical Rh?ne-like aromas of smoked bacon intermixed with the telltale violets, quite exuberant. The palate is quite silky, with volume and juicy tannins, quite in line with what I tasted in the 2011. There are some final spicy notes, possibly from the élevage, that should get integrated with a few more months in bottle. As a reference, I also tasted the 2010, which is evolving very slowly. There were 21,693 bottles produced.
