From their vineyards in Retuerta de Bullaque, Toledo, comes the 2011 Vallegarcía Syrah from seven hectares of the Rh?ne variety pruned in the Smart-Dyson way, which fermented in stainless steel and matured in barrel for one year. There is a strong smell of boiled ham (lacón, look it up or order it next time you're in Spain), smoky bacon, with roasted notes and well-integrated oak. The palate is juicy and meaty (pun intended) reminiscent of the Northern Rh?ne, with powerful flavors, very tasty, umami-driven and supple. This is a very good Syrah, with its own personality and a very good value at that. 26,000 bottles.
