I have been critical of the red wines from Silverado, which often taste frightfully austere with sharp levels of acidity. I was troubled by the extremely lean, painful, sharp personality of the 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Reserve. An austere wine, with high acidity, a disappointing medium ruby color, and minty, underripe red currant flavors, it has an astringent personality. A dramatic effort. This Cabernet is bold, ripe, rich and concentrated, gushing with minty currant, black cherry, plum and wild berry flavors. It's highly extracted, delivers a long, rich aftertaste. Drinks well now, will be even better from 2000 to 2002. 3,369 cases made. -JL
